What we do

Through our educational programs, we work with indigenous children and youth from 0 to 20 years in changing conditions that contribute to the exercise and observance of their rights.

Target groups and educational programs:

EARLY CHILDHOOD 0-6 AÑOS

We work with sons and daughters of working women who are left alone at home, in care of other girls or boys or adults that are not interested in them. This target group also includes sons and daughters of working women who accompany their mothers in their workspace (in the streets or others).

We work with this kids through the program named “Social Inclusion for Indigenous Children” which addresses the following issues: infant and childhood citizenship, childrearing models, and sustainable personal security. The program is coordinated from our Educational Centre, Arrumacos, which is located at our facilities in San Cristóbal de Las Casas, and realizes outreach work with women inside the marginalized indigenous communities.

  • CHILD WORKERS  6-13 AÑOS

We work with street working children (in the streets and markets), and fixed workers through 2 programs:

  1. Integration program and school retention: The idea behind this program is to foster the necessary conditions in order for indigenous girls, boys, and adolescent youth to enter into and stay in school. This program promotes the development of critical thinking and positive study habits and includes a scholarship subprogram and a children’s library.
  2. Prevention of street risks: It’s aimed towards the prevention of exploitation, human trafficking and child abuse.

  • YOUTH AT RISK  13-20 AÑOS

We work with young people with risky behavior such as drugs use and unsafe sexual practices who live in a violent environment that permeates their social relationships and also criminalizes them just for being young. Most of the have quitted school and the severe difficulties they have in finding jobs in the city so they often migrate to other states or the USA.

We work with them through 3 programs:

  • Sexual and reproductive rights
  • Addictions prevention
  • Social and labour insertion
